I rented this to watch with a friend, thinking we might find a guilty pleasure movie. I hadn’t really thought this would be very good but Anna Faris grew on me in the ads.
The Basics: A sweet but vapid Playboy Bunny gets thrown out of the Playboy mansion, the only home she’s ever known. Through dumb luck (pun intended), she gets a job as a house mother at a sorority house populated by lovable losers whose charter is about to be taken away. Hilarity ensues, supposedly. Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) are swept up in the world of national secret intelligence and forced to carry out the orders of a mysterious female voice on every cellular and mobile device around them. I know summer is supposed to start Memorial Day weekend or, if you’re a stickler, June 21st, but I’m talking about the summer according to Hollywood. Expectations have a lot to do with how much I (and most people) enjoy a movie. If your expectations are too high, it’s hard for a movie to live up to them. Or, How I Became Wolverine. Or, What the X-Men Did Before Charles Xavier. Or, … You get the point. I suppose if I were a 25-year-old male who had grown up reading about the spandex clad Wolverine this movie would have thrilled me.
