Quote of the Week

The quote this week is in honor of tonight’s Oscar ceremony.  I know many people find the acceptance speeches, especially in the lesser known categories, boring and they often are.  But I still like to listen to every one.  You never know when you’ll find a hidden jewel.  Take last year’s Award for Best Song.  It went to Falling Slowly, a song central to the plot of Once, a tiny Irish independent film that was shot for $160,000 in 17 days.  The song was written by two musicians who starred in the movie.  When accepting the Oscar, Glen Hansard said his thank yous, then (as often happens with the smaller awards) as Marketa Irglova stepped to the mic, the orchestra played, the 2 lucky unknowns were ushered off the stage, & the telecast went to commercial.  When they returned, however, Irglova was invited back onstage; the first time in Oscar history that a winner was invited back onstage to finish their speech.  What she said was touching & worth the breech in protoccol.  You can see their moment here.

I’m sorry to say that this week’s quote may not be completely accurate.  I have looked & looked to find this acceptance speech but I simply don’t remember enough details to find it.  I believe the award was for one of the documentary catagories about 10 years ago.  I don’t remember the name of the film or the man who accepted the Oscar, except that he had a beard & an accent.  But I do remember what he said (if not word for word).  I hope I have captured it here.

The truth not told in love is not really the truth at all.
