It’s a bit early for Oscar season. There are still a few big summer movies due out yet. But it is time for the trailers for upcoming Oscar bait to start hitting. Here are a couple that look intriguing. Read the rest of this entry »
Honestly, I haven’t seen that many Luc Besson films, but I love his quirky storytelling. The Fifth Element is one of my favorites. He’s got a new one coming out and it looks awesome! I can’t find a release date for the US yet but it’s already been released in some parts of Europe. I originally saw this without the subtitles & I still thought it looked cool. I must warn you there is some brief nudity. It is French afterall. But come on! A Victorian adventure with a kick ass heroine! Read the rest of this entry »
This trailer is making the movie blog rounds & and the documentary itself is making the festival rounds & getting positive reviews. The movie covers the revival of Disney animation in the 80s & early 90s and features such young up & comers like Tim Burton & John Lassiter. It looks fascinating but I have no idea when this will be coming to a theater near me. You can watch the trailer by clicking here— Read the rest of this entry »
I loved both the Toy Story movies. When someone wants an example of a sequel that was better than the original, I point them to Toy Story 2. (Most cinephiles would say The Godfather 2 but I don’t like gangster movies.) But when I heard they were making a Toy Story 3, I was a little concerned. The fact that Tom Hanks & the rest of the cast were returning did relieve my fears a bit. Although he has made some minor missteps, Hanks has earned my trust. Our first look at this movie is out & I have to say, it made me laugh & it feels like the magic is back. I may have to put this on my I Can’t Wait list.
You probably already know that when Heath Ledger died tragically two years ago, he was in the middle of filming the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. The creative team behind the film, led by director Terry Gilliam, came up with what I think was an inspired solution to losing their star. Apparently, the story involved Ledger’s character going through a mirror (a la Alice) three times. When Ledger died, he had completed filming almost all the scenes on one side of the mirror. First peeks at several new films I’ve been curious about. My reactions range from “meh” to “it might not be that bad”.
The Karate Kid: My feelings on this upcoming remake have been suspicious, especially the casting of Jackie Chan & Jaden Smith in the leads. I have to admit this trailer had a nice energy but I’m still not convinced it has the heart the original one had. Maybe I just still have a soft spot for Ralph Macchio. Read the rest of this entry »
Inception: Leonardo Dicaprio in a Christopher Nolan movie? Yes please! Throw in Joseph Gordon-Levitt?! I may wet myself. This physics-bending teaser brings to mind The Matrix but I trust director Nolan to be more original than that. Have a peak. Read the rest of this entry »
A couple of interesting blips popped up this week.
The Last Airbender: M. Night Shymalan is currently directing the movie version of Nickelodeon’s series of the same name. I’ve never seen it so I have no idea what it’s about but I’m glad to see Shymalan branching out. Read the rest of this entry »
