I’d managed to miss this movie for 22 years.  It was on cable last week & as I flipped through it a couple of times, never having a clue what was going on, I decided it was time to add it to my Netflix queue.

What I Liked: I had no idea that Albert Brooks was so funny.  What a quick wit!  It was strange to hear Nemo’s dad’s voice coming out of this man but he kept me in stitches.   Love Holly Hunter, completely neurotic.  In fact the entire cast was really good.  Very fun seeing inside the 80′s network news world.  Man, things have changed a lot…& many things haven’t. Some of the logistics were so dated & nostalgic; no cell phones, laptops, Arnie as a fledging movie star. But the politics, the substance vs. the flash, are as relevant today as they were 22 years ago.  Reminded me of Edward R. Murrow’s speech in Good Night & Good Luck.  Smart script.  Even the art direction seemed real.

What I Didn’t Like: Very little.  This was a fun movie all round.

Bottom Line: I think this movie holds up as both comedy & commentary.  Funny & smart.  Worth renting.
