Chick 1 says:
I have a confession to make. I’ve hidden this secret from most of my friends for several years now. I hope you’ll still respect me once you know.
I read fan fiction.
If you don’t know what fan fiction is you’re probably not an ubergeek. Fan fiction is (duh) fiction written by fans. It is usually written within a certain entertainment universe; Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Heros, even Gossip Girl or the Brady Bunch. Writers put a disclaimer at the beginning that they don’t own the characters and that they are not making money. For the most part, this satisfies copyright law and franchise owners have mostly been content to let the fans enjoy themselves. Quality and styles have a wide range even within a single universe. From the extremely common obviously-written-by-a-13-year-old-girl to some extremely disturbing and slimey, from people who have no business writing whatsoever to people who can actually capture the tone and language of the original writer. There are even fan fiction terms to let you know what you’re getting. Canon – no events in the story conflict with what’s in the original material. Alternate universe – something is very different (Frodo doesn’t leave with the elves). Crossover – two universes meet (Gandalf vs Dumbledore – duel to the death).
I’ve only read Lord of the Rings fan fiction and have discovered a handful of writers who really mimic Tolkien and understand the characters and world he created. But an event happened this week that will test the legal bounds of fan fiction everywhere.
A group of filmmakers has produced what they are calling “an unofficial not for profit short film”. The Hunt for Gollum was filmed in North Wales in 2007 by a team of volunteers. As with other fan fiction, no one was paid for their time, including post production and animators.
The movie is very clearly modeled after Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy right down to the font used for the titles. That font, like almost everything else in the New Line franchise was created solely for that production. The film follows several characters with whom we are very familiar. It appears to be “canon”, expounding on a period mentioned briefly by Tolkien when Legolas’ father was charged with keeping Gollum prisoner so that he could not reveal the location of the ring. Gollum escaped and Aragorn and Gandalf were charged with finding him. They failed.
This is certainly not the first time fans have made a movie based on copyrighted material. YouTube is filled with such ventures. And the Michel Gondry movie, Be Kind Rewind, starring Mos Def and Jack Black, started a whole new genre of “sweded” versions of movies. (I highly recommend Be Kind Rewind, btw, very sweet.) But all of these videos were clearly fans playing dress up, not professionals producing a very professional looking film. We’ll see where this winds up legally.
In the meantime, you can see the trailers and the movie at the link below. It is very impressive looking but obviously not of the quality (or budget) of the original films. I also found all the trailers a bit slow moving. I haven’t had a chance to see the movie itself but I hope to check it out this weekend. You can too at www.thehuntforgollum.com.

Earlier this morning, I randomly got up at around 3 AM, still
thinking about the anime Kaiji. That show really gets under your skin.
Something cool I found out is that many of the games in Kaiji reflect real-life
underground gambling strategies. No wonder it feels so real.
I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I decided to read
an article that went into the realism of Kaiji’s gambling scenes.
Seriously, if you’re into anime or gambling, you need to read it
too.
Still buzzing from it all, I opened up my go-to casino app and gave it a shot.
I picked Book of Ra—it just felt right in that moment.
Believe it or not—I hit a $1,000 win. Did not see that coming.
What I love about Book of Ra is how those bonus rounds come out of nowhere and flip everything.
It’s got me thinking… was that just luck?
Or did Kaiji awaken something?
What do you think?.
I just could not depart your web site prior to suggesting that I actually enjoyed the
usual info a person supply on your visitors? Is gonna be

Last night, I suddenly opened my eyes at around
3 AM, with my mind stuck on the anime Kaiji. It’s crazy how much it sticks with you.
Something cool I found out is that Kaiji’s gambling games are actually based
on real psychological and game theory concepts. It adds a whole new layer to the experience.
Too wired to sleep, so I decided to read an article that talked
about how Kaiji’s games work in real life. Trust me, it’s worth checking
out if Kaiji hooked you like it did me.
Still riding the mental high, I opened up my favorite online casino and played a few rounds.
I picked Book of Dead—something about the vibe just matched.
And get this—I hit a $1,000 win. Did not see that coming.
What I always enjoy about Book of Ra is how those bonus
rounds come out of nowhere and flip everything.
So now I’m wondering… was it random, or something more?
Or did Kaiji awaken something?
What do you think?.
Thanks for another informative blog. Where else may I

What you wrote was very logical. However, think about this, suppose you typed a catchier post title?
I ain’t suggesting your content is not solid, however suppose you added
a title to possibly get folk’s attention? I mean Randomness:
The Hunt for Gollum | The Flick Chicks is kinda boring. You might peek
at Yahoo’s front page and see how they create article headlines to get viewers to open the
links. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to get readers interested about everything’ve got to say.
In my opinion, it might make your posts a little bit more interesting.

A few hours ago, I suddenly opened my eyes at around 3 AM,
haunted by thoughts of that intense anime Kaiji I watched before bed.
That show really gets under your skin.
One thing I recently discovered is that the creator used real
behavioral tactics to make the gambling in Kaiji feel brutally authentic.
It adds a whole new layer to the experience.
Too wired to sleep, so I found this deep-dive
blog post that went into the realism of Kaiji’s gambling scenes.
Seriously, if you’re into anime or gambling, you need to read it too.
Still buzzing from it all, I fired up my go-to casino
app and gave it a shot. I picked Book of Ra—it just felt right
in that moment.
Believe it or not—I hit a $1,000 win. Did not see that coming.
What I always enjoy about Gate of Olympus is the way multipliers can stack like crazy during free spins.
It’s got me thinking… was it random, or something more?
Or was that destiny?
Anyone else ever feel something similar?.
I got this website from my friend who shared with me about this web site and now this time I am visiting this website and reading very informative content
at this time.
Earlier this morning, I suddenly opened my eyes at around 3 AM, still thinking about Kaiji.
The tension in that anime lingers long after it ends.
A fact I came across not long ago is that many of the games in Kaiji reflect real-life underground gambling strategies.
That just makes me respect the anime even more.
I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I checked out a write-up that explained
the psychology behind the anime. Trust me, it’s worth checking out if Kaiji hooked you like it did me.
With my brain still spinning, I opened up my regular slot site and played a few
rounds. I picked Book of Ra—no idea why.
And get this—I scored a grand. Totally unexpected. What I love about Book of Ra
is how those bonus rounds come out of nowhere and flip
everything.
I keep asking myself… was it pure chance? Or was that destiny?
Anyone else ever feel something similar?.
I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog. It’s a very
easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more

Superb work!
Hmm is anyone else encountering problems with the images on this
blog loading? I’m trying to determine if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
After exploring a few of the blog posts on your web site, I honestly like
your technique of writing a blog. I book marked it to my bookmark webpage list and will be checking
back soon. Take a look at my web site as well and let me know
what you think.
Having read this I thought it was extremely enlightening.
I appreciate you finding the time and effort to put this article together.
I once again find myself personally spending a
significant amount of time both reading and commenting.
But so what, it was still worth it!
Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go
back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
Genuinely no matter if someone doesn’t understand then its up to other
users that they will help, so here it occurs.
Howdy! This article could not be written much better!
Looking through this article reminds me of my previous
roommate! He constantly kept preaching about this.
I most certainly will send this information to him. Fairly certain he
will have a good read. Thank you for sharing!
Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your
point. You definitely know what youre talking about, why waste your
intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?

Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Taking
a few minutes and actual effort to generate
a top notch article… but what can I say… I put things off a lot and don’t
