Finally, our first moving look at Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. I’m still excited about this project but I’m a little underwhelmed by the trailer. Obviously a teaser, we see most of the major players and some fun special effects but nothing to really sink your teeth into. (And no Alan Rickman, sadness!) I want more. I guess that’s what a teaser’s supposed to do. Enjoy.
Yes, I skipped Part 2. Part 2 was supposed to be about June releases but as far as June movies were concerned….turns out, I could wait. I actually wrote a Part 2 draft but it was the most boring thing I’ve ever written. I decided to spare you. Happily, July is looking much more promising.
Public Enemies: Johnny Depp & Christian Bale? Say no more. I’m in. Make it a period piece & throw in Marion Cotillard? Color me very interested. Read the rest of this entry »
We’ve had a couple of glimpses of Tim Burton’s upcoming take on Alice In Wonderland, like this pic of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Yesterday, several more character portraits ,like this balloon-headed Helena Bonham Carter, and some delightful concept art were released. I know this will be weird, but I am really looking forward to this. And I have to say, while the first Mad Hatter picture looked like Johnny Depp, I think this one looks like Elijah Wood. Look at the eyes & that gap in the teeth. Does Johnny Depp have a gap in his teeth? See the rest of them (including Johnny Depp as Elijah Wood as the Mad Hatter) here. Plan to go down the rabbit hole March 5, 2010.
Oh joy! The first trailer from Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes was released yesterday. We already knew that this was not going to be your usual Holmes whodunit. With Robert Downey Jr cast as Holmes, Jude Law as Watson, and Ritchie at the helm, this was going to be a grittier and probably funnier Holmes. I was expecting something dark & brooding but with an underlying humor but after the trailer debuted at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin in March, the buzz said that this was more of a buddy comedy. It is definitely very un-Holmes but I think it looks like fun. It certainly may offend Holmes purists. See for yourself. Trailer will play with Terminator Salvation this weekend. The movie opens Christmas 2009.
I didn’t know whether to put this post under I Can’t Wait! or Casting Notes since I don’t really know a lot about this movie. It’s directed by Alejandro Amenabar who directed the Open Your Eyes, The Others, and The Sea Inside and it stars Rachel Weisz. A slave starts following new religion Christianity while falling in love with his master, a famous atheist. These are stunning. They appear to be lit so that they look like Alma-Tadema paintings.
I wanted to post this a week ago so I could kick off the summer. I know summer is supposed to start Memorial Day weekend or, if you’re a stickler, June 21st, but I’m talking about the summer according to Hollywood. This may not be quite as big a movie summer as last year but there’s still some great stuff on the way. For this post, let’s just take a look at May. Read the rest of this entry »
Oh, Joy! They’ve only been filming 1 month and we already have an official pic. Nothing earth shattering. The shop seems to have gotten a small makeover. But doesn’t Tony look gooood!
Yippee! First Looks at 2 upcoming fantasy movies. Feast your eyes.
Robin Hood: Russell Crowe sports a somewhat Maximus haircut in this new photo from the production. Yummy. We’ve also learned that Matthew MacFadyen (Pride & Prejudice) has been cast as the Sherriff of Nottingham. Interesting. Read the rest of this entry »
Okay, I got totally geeked out by a trailer that aired during the Super Bowl, so I guess I have to own up to it. I am totally stoked about…
G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra.
Yes, really. I didn’t have the Barbie collection growing up (that was Chick 1), I had the G.I.Joe collection. And what a collection it was. I missed the 12 inch doll era, but did get in before the double-action kung-fu grip. I know to someone out there, that means something. The casting looks pretty decent as well - Dennis Quaid as General Hawk (one of the originals), Channing Tatum, and Sienna Miller. I am most excited about Ray Park as Snake Eyes because he is a true martial artist that kicks ass. My only reservation in casting would be Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander. Nothing against Gordon-Levitt, but I just don’t see it. I’m sure it will be your basic summer, Stephen Sommers-directed, kid’s movie, but it should be fun to see my childhood on the big screen. It’s about time.
2008 was a great year for movies, especially if you like popcorn entertainment like I do. Superheros continued to rise to new levels. There were some great animated pictures, and a variety of smaller smart films. But 2009 is poised to be the year that my geekiness reaches new levels of its own.
It’s already difficult for me to deny my geekdom. I love almost anything in the fantasy/scifi genre. I’m a huge Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings fan. I’ve even read Lord of the Rings fanfiction. (Shut up! and give me back my bookbag!) But look at the geek line up of huge tentpole movies coming out in 2009: Read the rest of this entry »
