Review: The House Bunny

Chick 1 says:housebunny

I rented this to watch with a friend, thinking we might find a guilty pleasure movie.  I hadn’t really thought this would be very good but Anna Faris grew on me in the ads.

The Basics: A sweet but vapid Playboy Bunny gets thrown out of the Playboy mansion, the only home she’s ever known.  Through dumb luck (pun intended), she gets a job as a house mother at a sorority house populated by lovable losers whose charter is about to be taken away.  Hilarity ensues, supposedly. Review: Eagle Eye

Chick 2 says:eagleeye

Combine I, Robot with the Matrix and you’ve got Eagle Eye.  Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) are swept up in the world of national secret intelligence and forced to carry out the orders of a mysterious female voice on every cellular and mobile device around them.  Of course, they soon uncover a plot that threatens national security.  I wonder if they thwart it?  Read more

Review: Star Trek

Chick 1 says:star trek

Star Trek, it’s not just for geeks anymore.  Well, actually, that’s a little difficult for me to say since I am a geek.  But, Oh My Gosh!

What I Liked:  Pretty much everything!  I was initially drawn to this movie by the cast and they did not disappoint.  Read more

Review: Transformers

 Chick 2 says:transformers

Put in some slow motion, a lot of light flares, and a circular dolly track shot and Michael Bay thinks you’ve got a movie.  Add some performance footage of a rock band and I admit it would make a good music video.  Maybe Bay should stick to that.  Read more

Review: The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Chick 1 says:girlfriendspast

Expectations have a lot to do with how much I (and most people) enjoy a movie.  If your expectations are too high, it’s hard for a movie to live up to them.  On the other hand, if your expectations are low, the movie may benefit from that.  Such was the case with Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Review: X-Men Origins Wolverine

 Chick 2 says:wolverine

Or, How I Became Wolverine.  Or, What the X-Men Did Before Charles Xavier. Or, …  You get the point.  I suppose if I were a 25-year-old male who had grown up reading about the spandex clad Wolverine this movie would have thrilled me.  As it is, it was a slightly disappointing opening to the summer movie season.  Read more

Review: The Soloist

Yay!  One of my I Can’t Wait movies is out!  Robert Downey Jr. , Joe Wright, & Jamie Foxx.  Sigh.  I am happy.

What I Liked: This really is a touching powerful story.  Read more

Review: Princess Mononoke

Chick 1 says:princess_mononoke

I’ve been wanting to explore a bit of Asian cinema, especially anime.  Many of them fall in my favorite genre, fantasy/scifi.  This movie, about a cursed prince who travels west to ask the Forest Spirit to heal him, had made quite a few Top Ten lists the year it was released.  It also has a lushous soundtrack that I had heard on the internet. Review: State of Play

Chick 1 says:stateofplay1

Finally!  Back in a theater after being thwarted by my schedule, my budget, & the lack of movies I actually want to see being released.  State of Play wasn’t really high on my must list but it has a great cast so The Flick Chicks gave it a look-see. Read more

Review: Stranger than Fiction

Chick 1 says:stranger-than-fiction

In honor of April 15th, I’m posting this review of Stranger than Fiction.  I’ve not viewed it recently but I own it & it’s one of my favorites.  If you’ve already completed your mad dash to the post office, swing by the video store & pick up a copy.  Or come by my apartment & borrow mine.  I’ll be watching Lost.   Sshhh.  No talking.
